Non Toxic Glues, Stains and Finishes
Upholstery Arts’ glues, stains and finishes contain none of the Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) identified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and emit none of the Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) identified by the EPA.
And UA glues, stains and finishes exceed both LEED indoor air quality standards and the German E-1 environmental standard.
100% Natural Wool Padding
Upholstery Arts has eliminated petrochemical based cushion wraps & padding, replacing them with natural, sustainable wool. UAs’ wools are recyclable, biodegradable, resilient, moisture & mould resistant-and naturally flame proof.
100% Natural Latex Padding
UA is the first upholstery manufacturer in the world to introduce high density, natural latex padding specifically designed for upholstery applications. Our new generation of natural latex padding eliminates the many environmental problems and health risks associated with polyurethane foam.
By completely rejecting crude oil based polyurethane foam padding Upholstery Arts significantly reduces green house gas emissions. And off gasing of carcinogenic, toxic chemicals is eliminated. Unlike polyurethane foam, natural latex is biodegradable, mildew proof, antimicrobal and dust mite resistant.
Like maple syrup, 100% natural latex is harvested from living trees, providing a renewable, biodegradable and truly sustainable alternative to crude oil based polyurethane foam.
Non Toxic Fire Protection
Upholstery Arts has researched and sourced a natural, non toxic mineral that it blends with 100% natural latex to create fire retardant (FR)cushioning - completely free of the toxic FR chemicals found in all polyurethane foam based upholstery. And UA wraps its’ upholstery products in a layer of natural wool padding that is self extinguishing without the need for any toxic, chemical additives.
Upholstery Arts may be the only manufacturer in the world providing clients with a two layered fire protection system that is effective, environmentally sound and poses no risks to human health.
Ecological Textiles
All Upholstery Arts textiles are ecological, and classified as either biodegradable or recyclable.
Our biodegradable textiles are nutrients designed to return to, and to nurture nature. They follow the biological cycle. They can be eaten by microorganisms and safely composted.
Our recyclable textiles are technical nutrients designed to be repurposed and perpetually reused. They provide nourishment for new products. This technical cycle imitates natures way. The goal is to not just to reduce waste, but to eliminate the concept of waste altogether.
Cradle to Cradle
Upholstery Arts believes all manufacturers own the responsibility for the waste they make. That’s why UA products are designed to be returned to our Earth. Or where nature cannot accept back the few of our product parts that don’t safely biodegrade,, we imitate nature by creating a perpetual, virtuous recycling loop. This idea is called Cradle to Cradle.
UA products last a long time, but someday even products as well made as ours will reach the end of their usefulness. When ever that day comes, know this- you can return your original purchase to UA for recycling, repurposing or disposal.
So commited are we to the concept of ending all waste, in exchange for returning your original purchase to UA, you will receive a 15% credit towards replacement product. Or, if you are just returning the well used product and not replacing it , UA will pay you 5% of your original purchase price, just for returning the product home to its’maker.
